In readiness for tomorrow morning please click below to download the most up to date list of Google Classroom Codes setup by ERGS teachers over the last few days. In addition to subject classrooms you will notice Year Group Bulletin rooms for contact with heads of year and year based updates, Library rooms and even a classroom for Year 10 Options.
It is probably stating the obvious but tomorrow is going to very different to the usual routine of the school day. Now is their chance to start later and finish later if they like, or have a lovely two hour lunch break (or two breaks, or three…..).
Structure will become very important. Not rigid, but regular. ERGS pupils normally spend about 5 hours of their day in a classroom setting split into three session:
- 11:15 – 13:00
- 13:45 – 15:30.
As far as is possible, we recommend that pupils try to establish a similar routine at home over the coming weeks; one suggestion might be to mirror their normal timetable.
Core subjects such as Maths and English should be a more frequent feature of the days compared to others such as LLW, which they would normally only have for 35 mins a week.
Physical exercise and practical activities will be essential to keep the boredom away and the mind focused.
Mobile phones and smart devices need to be put away as they will be an obvious source of distraction.
Pupils should sit at a desk or table to work. It is really important to have good posture AND research says they will remember more later if they were sat learning in the same physical position they have to recall that information in (i.e. at a desk like in an exam or a lesson at school).
This is a very new situation for the pupils, yourself as parents and the teachers. We thank you in advance for your patience and support as we navigate this new way of learning together over the coming weeks. Google Classroom allows the pupils to send messages and ask question of their teachers so please encourage your young people to use this facility of they are struggling. Equally parents are welcome to contact school through the normal channels.
