The ERGS U14 hockey team met Drumragh College in a mid week fixture. This was a game of pride for the coach, Mt Murray, and the team did him proud, even though they were missing a regular player Ellie McCartney. Victoria Benson, Eadie Fallis and Kayla Noble started with a good attack unfortunately this did not lead to anything. Drumragh counter attacked well but Charlotte Evans , Abi Brock, Emily Morton and Rachel Mullan kept them at bay and regaining possession which resulted in a penalty corner through the forwards attack in the Drumragh circle. Victoria Benson used Abi Brock to control the ball, who struck it across the circle for Ellen Moutray to put it past the keeper on the far post.
In the second half, ERGS made two changes with Jodie Doherty and Jessica Hogg coming into the defence. With continued fantastic defensive play from the back four, including Rachel Mullan who normally plays forward, the ERGS keeper Caryn Graham got very few touches of the ball. With a Victoria Benson and Kayla Noble a positional change in attack, ERGS kept the Drumragh defence working hard. This pressure was too much for Drumragh resulting in an attack of play into their circle. With a well positioned Abi McMullan receiving a good ball in space from Sophia Williams to score ERGS’s second goal. ERGS kept control of the remaining game time showing how they have matured over the years to result in a well deserved win for this U14 side.
