Double Award Science

At Enniskillen Royal Grammar School, all students in Years 11 and 12 follow the Science Double Award Unitised GCSE under the CCEA examining board. The assessment consists of 75% examination and 25% controlled assessment.

Science stimulates pupils’ curiosity, interest and deepens their knowledge of phenomena in the world around them. As they progress in Science, pupils’ understanding of major scientific ideas grows. They learn to appreciate how these ideas have, and continue to contribute to technology advances worldwide.

Students taking this course are well placed to go on to study sciences at Advanced Level. Double Award Science is essential for anyone considering a career path in which science is a major component or for those considering a Science subject at A-Level.

Aims of the Course

This Double Award Science course gives students opportunities to:-

  • Develop knowledge and understanding of science on the world around us, and its effect on society
  • Develop ability to plan, carry out, analyse and make conclusions from investigations
  • Develop ability to evaluate claims based on science through qualitative and quantitative analysis
  • Develop skills in communication, mathematics and technology in a science context.

Unit 2 Chemistry Further Chemical Reactions, Organic Chemistry and Materials. 14%
Unit 2 Physics Waves, Sound and Light,

Electricity and the Earth and Universe.

Career Opportunities

Basis for the study of science related courses at A Level. Medicine, agriculture, engineering, architecture, physiotherapy, pharmacy, nursing, sports science, forensics, nutrition, veterinary science, dentistry.

Enniskillen Royal Grammar School is a new academically selective voluntary grammar school that opened on 1 September 2016.
