Physics is a key part of Science and Technology, which deals with how and why things behave as they do. It is the study of how the Universe works, considering the smallest fundamental particles right up to the largest galaxies and beyond. The A level Physics Course is divided into six units all of which are externally assessed. They are outlined in the table below. The first three units which cover 40% of the course are studied at AS level and the remaining 60% of the course is covered by the three A2 units.

An A Level in Physics is essential for students wishing to follow a career in any branch of Engineering, e.g. Aeronautical, Civil, Electronic, Electrical or Mechanical, as well as careers in Radiography, Biophysics, Geophysics, Optics etc. It will also prove an advantage to those seeking admission in to the Army, Navy or Air Force, and a wide range of other careers. Employers rate Physics qualifications very highly, especially at A Level or beyond.

Gold Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Success
Congratulations to this year's Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award participants, who successfully completed their Gold Qualifying Expedition last week.
Over four days, the groups trekked approximately 80 km through the stunning but demanding Mourne Mountains. Throughout both their training and qualifying expeditions, they demonstrated exceptional determination, resilience and commitment, overcoming every challenge they encountered with positivity and perseverance.
The teams went from strength to strength as the expedition progressed, showing outstanding character, teamwork and attitude no matter what they faced. Their ability to support one another and work together impressed both the expedition leaders and assessor, who praised the high standard they maintained throughout.
It would not have been possible without the support, guidance and encouragement of all the leaders involved, and we would like to thank them sincerely for helping to make this achievement possible.
It has been an absolute pleasure to work with this fantastic group of young people over the past 12 months. They have been outstanding ambassadors for the Enniskillen Royal Grammar School Duke of Edinburgh Award and should be incredibly proud of everything they have achieved.

Congratulations to Ellie Dunlop who qualified in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke as well as the individaul medley in the Irish Summer National Youth and Senior Championships in Dublin. Ellie reached the A finals in both the 50 m and 100m breaststroke and added a place in the B final of 200m breaststroke. Her standout result came in the 50 m breaststroke where she finished 5th in Ireland. Congratulations, Ellie.👏
