Huge congratulations to the Medallion squad who beat Larne Grammar away this afternoon in a very closely contested battle to win 3-10.
With the first half ending 0-0 and the ERGS side failing to capitalise on the advancing wind they left themselves with a tough second half ahead.
Larne opened the scoring early on with a penalty, taking advantage of the wind to get themselves within reach of the posts. The ERGS boys however kept their heads high and reset from the kick-off realising that they needed to spread the ball wide and challenge the opposition’s defence. Irvine soon used his pace to dance down the left wing, scoring 5 points but the approaching cross wind made the conversion a near impossible feat for Owen. As battle continued the ERGS boys’ improved fitness began to pay off, as they held the Larne boys in their own half. Solid punch running and rucking from the pack then nearly prevailed as Guobys was held up over the line twice in quick succession.
Sheer determination to close the game out finally saw Harron find his way over the line to seal victory in the dying minutes. Final score 3-10
We now look forward to meeting Foyle in the Final on neutral territory at Rainey, Saturday 2nd March… see you there!
