On Thursday 7 March the sixth form Peace Studies group visited Derry/Londonderry for a guided tour of the history of the city. Our guide, Mr Peter Monaghan, provided the pupils from ERGS and St Michael’s with a fascinating personal account of growing up in the city during the Troubles and how the political agendas of the past and present shaped the city’s community then, now and for the future. The pupils had the opportunity to visit and discuss the murals of the Bogside and the site of the Bloody Sunday Memorial, as well as walk along the city walls where they we told about history of the walls and their significance for the culture of the people you call the city their home. A brilliant day and well worth a visit.
