Sam Armstrong, former head boy and Boat Club rower was selected to row for Cambridge Lightweight Crew against Oxford on Saturday. Since 1975 the race took place over 2000m at Henley but this year it was moved to the same Championship course on The Tideway as the open weight Boat Race which takes place on 7th April. The course is 4.2 miles long starting in Putney and finishing at Mortlake.
It was Oxford’s Day on Saturday but hopefully Sam will be back in the Boat for next year’s race.
Sam said on Sunday morning “It was a huge honour to be able to represent Cambridge, but it meant so much more as it was the first time that the lightweight boat race has been on the tideway. Being able to promote lightweight rowing when it is struggling as a discipline and be on the same stage as the openweight boat race was an amazing and unforgettable experience”
