The 1st XI girls had a 9.30 ‘pass back’ this morning away to Raphoe. Enniskillen and Raphoe are always well matched and it was anyone’s game to win. Raphoe strongly dominated the first 10 minutes of the first half with most of the play inside Enniskillen’s defensive 23. Raphoe were awarded 4 short corners in the first half of the match but were unable to score any goals, being cut out by the defence every time. After a ball to the hand, Sarah Murray went off injured. The second half saw Raphoe awarded with one goal that came from play and just slipped through the post, past the keepers foot. Many runs by Enniskillen midfield were picked up by the forwards who narrowly missed the goals. Raphoe were awarded a penalty corner just as the final whistle blew so Enniskillen knew the pressure was on to keep the narrow score line. The defence fought tirelessly to finally hear the whistle blow with no further goals from Raphoe.
This week was a struggle to field a team so a big thank you to Emily Morton and Abi Brock who were called up from the 2nd XI to play defence and to Anna Wilson and Isla Rowland who were called up from the younger teams. Also to Victoria Benson who usually plays forward for the 2nd XI for volunteering her football skills to do keeper. All the girls, especially those younger players did themselves and the team proud as they played phenomenally.
