Our final gallery of the Spring Term and hopefully our final gallery of ‘Lockdown Learning’ – Well done everyone!
8C were given the challenge to model a phone holder that would hold their mobile phone securely. Before they did this they did a short activity drawing the net of a cube and folding it together. They then used squared paper to draw a net of a phone holder that would hold their phone securely. The net was cut out and placed onto card to allow the design to be tested. They will begin making their phone holders when they return to school after Easter” – Mr McDevitt

The Home Economics department moved another step along the remote learning continuum this week by offering live practical cookery lessons to some of the Year 8 and 9 classes as a trial. To keep things simple, we started with making an easy Easter treat – Fifteens. The pupils were provided with the recipe in advance of the lesson so that they could purchase the ingredients and then they joined their teacher in the live lesson and cooked along with her and with their peers allowing discussion and questioning as well as general social (virtual) interaction.
Pupils who did not wish to take part in making the Fifteens in the live platform were able to join the session and watch their teacher and peers; alternatively, they could watch the pre-recorded video of their teacher making the tray bake. Much learning, fun and chit-chat took place as well as the odd ‘mishap’ but what happens in live practical lessons, stays in live practical lessons!!
A sincere thank you to the pupils for taking part and to the parents/guardians for purchasing the ingredients so that a new teaching and learning strategy could be employed to enhance the overall experience of Home Economics within the virtual platform – Mrs Kettyle
