The first round of the Northern Ireland Schools Debating Competition got underway this week with the motion: This House believes that the voting age in all local and UK elections should be reduced to 16. The ERGS Proposition team of Annie Fowler (Year 13) and Luchia McCusker (Year 12) were the winners of the first debate against Foyle College A, while the Proposition team of Foyle College B emerged as winners of the second debate against ERGS team Barry Hutchinson (Year 13) and Owen McKinley (Year 14). Both debates proved very lively with great contribution from the Floor of the House. Adjudicator for the afternoon was Mr S Quinn, Chairperson was Mrs B Davis, and Timekeeper was Mr D Martin. We’re already looking forward to the next round!
