ERBC had 23 crews participating in the Newry Head of the River on Saturday which took place in very blustery and challenging conditions. The rowers won 6 categories over the 2 races. Evan Donaghy, Ryan Topping, Luke Bailey, Andrew Cuthbertson, Christian Timoney, Lorcan Sreenivasan, William Bogle, Harry Coalter and cox Abbey Wilson were the fastest crew over the shortened 3km Course in Race 1 winning the Senior Eight category over DUBC in a great time of 9.03.6. Luke Bailey, Ryan Topping, Evan Donaghy, Harry Coalterand Abbey Wilson went on the take the honours in the Men’s Junior Coxed Four over Methodist College, Belfast in Race 2 which was raced over 5 Km. They completed the course in 15.59.6.
Both the boys and the girls’ Junior 16 Eights won their categories. The Women’s Junior Coxless Four of Eva Johnston, Naomi Robinson, Kate Huddlestone and Isabelle Wright lifted the pennant for that category in a time of 10.46.8 and the Girls Junior 15 Coxed quad, Clodagh Donaghy, Kaityln Read, Eva Fowler, Maeve Rolston McAuliffe and cox Harry Welsh were delighted with their win over crews from Neptune RC, Methody and Newry RC.
The next race for the rowers is Sligo Head on Saturday, 15th March for Years 9 – 11, the seniors will be focusing on Erne Eights Head of the River on Saturday, 1st March.
