Enniskillen Royal Grammar School welcomed their German partners over the past 10 days as part of the long-standing exchange with our twin town Brackwede. There was great excitement as links were forged and our pupils had the opportunity of finally meeting their exchange partners face to face.
The first day was spent visiting classes, being welcomed at a reception at the town hall and getting to know Enniskillen by conducting a town trail. One of the many highlights were the trips to the Giant’s Causeway, visiting Yeat’s grave at Sligo, Glencar Waterfall and a visit to the beach combined with shopping in Foyleside. Friendships were quickly cemented and extended among peer groups evidenced by the large booking at Enniskillen Omniplex on the Friday evening.
After spending quality time with the host families over the weekend, the group rounded off their visit on Monday with a trip to the Walls of Derry where they learned about our historical culture culminating with some last minute shopping at Foyleside.
It was then time to say “Aufwiedersehen” to our friends where the links will hopefully be maintained and strengthened until our return visit next year.
