Winner of our in-school German Spelling Bee competition, Year 9 pupil Ciara Hutchinson, represented the school today in the Northern Ireland German Spelling Bee competition, run by NICILT at QUB. This competition took place virtually, so Mr Beddard’s office was temporarily transformed into our German Spelling Bee HQ for Ciara to compete. Preparation for the Spelling Bee involved learning to spell 50 words in German, ranging from everyday words like numbers and clothes, to some rather obscure words for animals like the pangolin (Schuppentier) and may beetle (Maikäfer)! Ciara did herself and the school proud in the hotly contested competition in which 11 schools from across the province took part.
