It was an amazing opportunity and a great privilege, to represent my school along with three other pupils (Niamh, Naythan and Lucy) at the Kids Lit Quiz in Belfast’s Wellington College last month!
The quiz atmosphere was electric and the excitement was tremendous. We went through 11 rounds, 10 questions per round plus one picture round. The questions covered every genre, from comics to comedy to crazy, fantasy dystopic fiction! The competition was a real treat for bookworms and our team’s expertise covered many of these genre’s. Nathan was fab at comics, Lucy was Harry Potter extraordinaire, Niamh and I had good all round knowledge (perhaps Niamh more than me;) so we were confident that we wouldn’t come in last place. By round eight we were in ninth place though, but after a few rounds which went in our favour, we rose to fifth; our final placing. Not bad at all, considering there were 23 teams altogether.
The best thing about this competition was the opportunity to represent my school in something we are all so passionate about; none of us are particularly good at sport, so having the ability to partake in the quiz and not embarrass the school ha ha ha, was brilliant! Thanks to Lucy, Niamh and Nathan for being such great team mates, to Mrs Gilmore (our fabulous book loving teacher) who seemed to tolerate our continuous chatter in the car, and to our school for giving us this experience!
Hoping that next year, another team will represent our school and do a great job too!
