Enniskillen Royal Grammar School are delighted to announce the first ever Senior School Drama club production of Peter Shaffer’s Amadeus, which will be performed on Thursday 23rd– Saturday 25th November at 7pm on Loughshore.
Director by Mrs McDowell, has a highly ambitious and creative vision for the production, which will transport the audience back to Mozart’s Vienna, where the audience meet the aging composer Salieri who claims to have poisoned Mozart. The action then flashes back to the eighteenth century, as Salieri attempts to explain himself.
Explaining her choice of play, Mrs McDowell said ‘Amadeus brings together three things from the past; the music of Mozart, one of the world’s greatest ever musicians; the words of one of the 20th century’s best Dramatists, Peter Shaffer; the beauty and history of the original Georgian building which is the heart of our school.’ Not only that but having cultivated the talents of the students for many years in the highly successful and entertaining Junior Drama Club Drama summer productions, Mrs McDowell is looking forward to celebrating and showcasing the many and varied talents of the pupils.
Prior to the show the audience will be entertained at a Masque Ball in the Georgian rooms of Portora House with music and song. Singer April McGuigan, who plays the Baroness said, “Having the opportunity to perform in such a wonderful play has been a blessing. I have always loved Mozart, so to be able to perform his music in a play surrounding him has been a dream”.
The audience will then move to the Dining Hall which will be transformed to an exciting theatre space for the evening. With a bespoke set created by Jon Kelly, costumes hired directly from London’s National Theatre, as well as some original designs by the Sixth Form pupils, the production promises to be a feast for the eyes and the imagination.
Rehearsals are well underway with a cast and crew drawn from Years 12-14 with some junior school students enhancing the production with their technical skills.
Harry Parkinson, who is currently rehearsing not one but three shows (he is also performing at the Ardhowen this month in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and School of Rock) is excited by the challenge. He commented “My experience recently has been mainly Musical Theatre, so it’s great to have the chance to take on a more serious role and develop the villainous character of Salieri. The whole process has been so amazing and the care everyone has for the show will leave an entertaining night for all!”
Tickets for the performance at Portora House on 23rd -25th November at 7pm are available via Loughshore reception priced £10 (adult) £5 (concessions) £25 for a family of 4. With a limited number each night available early booking is advised.
