The Classical Music section of the Feis took place during the week commencing 25th March. Once again Enniskillen Royal Grammar School was very strongly represented across a number of classes including Instrumental; Brass, Piano, Strings and Woodwind as well as in Vocal Solos and the Junior Choral class. There were notable successes and a number of pupils achieved highly often gaining 1st, 2nd, 3rd or Highly Commended prizes.
The Junior Choir also had great success in a tightly fought competition, emerging as winners after a highly entertaining afternoon at St Fanchea’s College. Enniskillen Royal Junior Choir performed a 3-part version of ‘Run’ by Snow Patrol and ‘This is me’ from The Greatest Showman. Two young soloists, Belle Cummings-Wysner and Amos Johnston also added to the performance. The choir was directed by Miss S Rasdale and accompanied by PGCE Languages student Miss S O’Neill. The choral competition was a most enjoyable event and a great celebration of choral singing from a number of local schools.
Notable Solo successes included Isaac Johnston who won Young Musician of the Year having competed in the Grade 3/4 Brass class. This award was made to Isaac to represent a young player who shows much promise for development. The Best Overall Grade 7/8 performance was awarded to Ellen Bloomfield who performed in the Strings class on Violin. In Vocal classes too, ERGS had overall winners with Annabel Stewart winning the Overall KS5 Vocalist. Jessica Murray won the KS4 Vocalist and was also awarded Young Singer of the Year, again acknowledging a young singer who shows much promise. Both Annabel and Jessica competed in the Contemporary and Classical Song sections.
Overall the Feis was once again a great success for our pupils, who gained much from their performing experiences and from the helpful advice of Richard Yarr the adjudicator. The opportunity to perform and compete within the community is welcomed and hopefully pupils will continue to develop their skills in making music!
