This year’s Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award group successfully completed their Gold Expedition at the end of August. Their 4 day adventure took them across the Mourne Mountains, covering approximately 80 km.
Despite the challenging weather conditions throughout the 4 days, the groups did not let this derail them from the task at hand. Their continuous positive attitude, enthusiasm, commitment and perseverance to get the job done shone through every day. The leaders and assessors were very impressed with the group’s performance and noted how strong the teamwork was across all 3 groups.
The teams have faced many challenges throughout their training weekends in Fermanagh and expedition in the Mourne Mountains, including poor weather conditions and tough terrain. These highly determined and motivated pupils took it all in their stride, rose to every challenge and always did it with a smile on their faces.
This fantastic group of young people have been a pleasure to work with over the last 12 months and are true ambassadors for Enniskillen Royal Duke of Edinburgh Award. Well done to everyone on their great achievement. We are so proud of you all!!!
Special mention must also go to Ms Stevenson who’s longstanding contribution and commitment to the Duke of Edinburgh Award over the past 30 years has allowed many young people to gain their Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. A massive thank you to her for everything she has done over the years, helping to instil a love of the outdoors and adventure in many young people.
