On Tuesday 12th December our Inter Netball Squad took to the roads as they sped to South Lakes Leisure Centre, Craigavon for their Shield fixture against Aquinas Grammar School. Never having faced these girls before, our decimated team ( injury, French trip, Swimming and coursework commitments) was understandably on edge.
Unfortunately our bus was 45 minutes late, due to unforeseen circumstances, meaning that the girls did not get a warm-up. Instead, it was a quick change and straight into positions and onto the court. For the first 10 minutes, the teams were sizing each other up and the scores remained quite close. Based on observations, we re-jigged the team in the 2nd quarter to allow for better flexibility. This, unfortunately, backfired and left us playing catch-up at half time. In the 2nd half, we played around again, trying to get a better combination with the players available to us. It appeared to work a little, but the gap was proving too large. To this end, we ensured that every player had at least 1/4 worth of playing time by the end of the match.
Final score 29-10 to Aquinas.
The girls will now go into the Bowl competition.
Next fixture: Minors and Inters versus Hunterhouse in the League on Thursday 14th December.
