The Irish Youth Music Awards is one of the largest annual music events open to all ages. The IYMA finals took place in Croke Park in Dublin on Saturday May 11th, 2019. During the event, there were performances from young musicians across Ireland as well as from award winning music acts, workshops and demonstrations, and the announcement of the IYMAs recipient region award and prize.
Elana Mulligan, an ERGS Year 13 pupil has had great success in the competition this year. She initially competed performing one of her own songs in an Enniskillen heat at ‘The Hangout’ on 22nd March. This qualified her to compete in the Irish Finals in Dublin. Prior to performing at Croke Park, Elana had to ‘do a gig’ which she performed at The Hangout, comprising performances of a few songs including her own work and cover versions. She also had to write a biography about her development as a musician and provide a music video which focused on her overall style of performance. In the final she had to perform one of her own songs and another song which had been a winning song in the Enniskillen heat by Ciaran Murphy. Elana was competing against young singers aged 12-19 from throughout Ireland over the course of the day and was revealed as the winner of the ‘Winning SongSection’ at the end of day.
Elana is delighted to have achieved success in this nationalcompetition and as a singer-song writer hopes to continue with her composition and Music studies. She is currently completing her AS Studies which include Music.
