Jessica Noble 8C entered the BBC 500 words competition back in March this year thinking she would just “give it a go, see what happens!” She never dreamt 3 months later she would be one of the finalists with a trip to Windsor Castle to look forward to courtesy of the BBC no less. Launched back in 2011, the competition celebrates imagination and creativity – not spelling and grammar! – so all children of all abilities are invited to enter by penning an original story of no more than 500 words in length. Out of over 100,000 applicants, Jessica’s story ‘The Thief of Wishes’ was selected to make the top 50 and is now published on the BBC website… A really fantastic achievement!! Jessica and the rest of the finalists will now attend a broadcast extravaganza of live music and sensational story-telling in London on 14th June at an awards ceremony in recognition of reaching the final 50. There, they will also find out the name of The 2019 BBC 500 Words overall winner, who will take home in prizes their own height in books, 500 books for their school, and their story illustrated. A huge congratulations and well done to Jessica from all at ERGS… We wish her the very best of luck in London and every success in the future.
