This year’s shared education Peace Studies initiative came to a successful close today as the group of Enniskillen Royal and St Michaels sixth form pupils came together to deliver a history lesson to the P7 classes of Holy Trinity Primary School in Enniskillen. The focus of this year’s Peace Studies cohort has been the year of 1918 and more specifically the group have been looking at the Suffragette movement of the time and its impact on the society that we know today both locally and nationally.
Today’s lessons were planned and created by the group of year 13 pupils, working in groups to design a carousel of market place style activities, with the aim of informing their P7 audience about the Suffragette movement, the propaganda of the time and some enlightening and shocking facts that would hopefully keep them engrossed. In groups, each of the P7 pupils worked their way through a series of activities including role play, board games, crafts and question and answer sessions. The event went really well with the younger pupils being able to demonstrate an impressive collection of knowledge gained from their experience.
A huge thank you must now go to Catherine Scott from the Castle Museum for her tireless enthusiasm and efforts throughout the year to pull this year initiative together. In addition, we would also like to thank Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Good Relations Fund for their continued support of the Peace Studies initiative and finally to Holy Trinity P7s and their teachers for allowing us to come to their school and deliver the workshops.
