The Board of Governors of Enniskillen Royal Grammar School held a reception on the evening of 18th June 2019 in honour of Mr Trevor Smith, who will retire as Vice Principal of Enniskillen Royal Grammar School at the end of August. Mr Smith was initially appointed to establish an engineering department in Portora Royal School by its Headmaster, Rev Val Rogers, in 1972. Over the years, as a teacher, he developed the engineering workshop into a fine technology department. He subsequently served as Vice Principal of Portora and after its amalgamation with Enniskillen Collegiate Grammar School he was appointed Vice Principal of Enniskillen Royal Grammar School. Warm tributes were paid to Mr Smith by Mr Peter Little, chairman of the Board and by Mr Sam Morrow, secretary to the Board, for what he had achieved in both schools. Mr Little pointed out that few teachers, if any, could match Mr Smith’s service of 47 years. His achievements in terms of examination success for his pupils would be difficult to equal. In his role as Vice Principal he has been a tremendous support for successive Principals. Mr Smith, who was accompanied by his wife, Jean, was given a presentation which included an inscribed crystal plaque recording his service and displaying the crests of both Portora Royal School and Enniskillen Royal Grammar School.
