Recently the school was approached by a team conducting research in the Fermanagh area on red squirrel populations. Our Lough Shore site was identified as a research site with a focus on looking for signs of red squirrel activity and a habitat in proximity to an urban area.
Earlier this week we were very pleased to receive the following evidence that there seems to be, not only a thriving red squirrel population on site but also a resident pine marten which the researchers suggest is part of the reason why grey squirrels in the area seem to be scarce and allowing the red squirrels to thrive.
