The ABP Angus Youth Challenge team carried out some sensory analysis work in Loughry’s Food Innovation Centre on Monday 3rd December. At Clogher Agricultural Show in July, the team noted from the questionnaires they distributed that taste was the influencing factor that encouraged the consumer to purchase Aberdeen Angus beef. Hence, the team wanted to substantiate this initial finding, so they used the state-of-the-art facilities at Loughry College to conduct a taste panel where student and lecturer volunteers tasted three breeds of steak: Aberdeen Angus, Charolais and Limousine. Interestingly, but not surprisingly, the Aberdeen Angus was the most preferred steak regarding flavour, therefore, substantiating the views of those interviewed at Clogher Show that this traditional breed is superior in taste.
