ERBC had a very successful day at Irish Indoor Rowing Championships on Saturday at the University of Limerick.
Acorn Cassidy is the Irish Junior Champion in both the 2000m and 500m events, breaking their own 2 Irish records. Acorn completed the 2K in 6.53.7 taking 1.1 secs off the time set in the gym in December. The 500m was completed in a brilliant time of 1.31.6, taking 1.6 seconds off the previous record, a fantastic achievement for Acorn.
There were 2 gold medals each for Joshua Ihnat and Isabella Wright in the J15 5 minute and 500m categories. Emily Black won a bronze medal in the WJ15 5 minute event, just missing out on silver by 1m. During the event Joshua Ihnat set a new Irish 500m 13/14 record, he completed the distance in a time of 1.27.7 taking 2 seconds off the previous record set by Olan Bradley
Twins Tori and Brooke Davis had a great day coming 7th and 13th respectively in the WJ15 5 minute event and they rowed really well in the WJ15_500m category. Tori, Brooke, Emily and Isabella took 2nd place in the WTY3 2000m relay bringing the day to an end. Considering the fact that Brooke had a fractured femur less than 7 months ago, this was a fantastic comeback.
Cillian Donaghy won a fabulous bronze medal in the MJ15 5 minute event covering 1433m and was 5th in the MJ_500m in a time of 1.33.8
Matthew Montgomery and Olie Powell both finished in the Top 10 in the MJ15 5 minute event.
Oliver Jennings and Joel Crean competed in their first indoor Championships and they put in great performances in the MJ14 4 minutes and the MJ14_500. Along with Matthew and Joel they took 3rd place in the MTY2 2000m relay, they should be very proud.
