From the first whistle it was clear that ERGS were not out to lose this match. The first half showed Enniskillen having the most possession.
A straight ball by Fiona Knowles from the top of the circle was met by Emma Beatty and two Foyle players. Beatty skilfully dribbled round both players into the circle and took a phenomenal flick shot at goal. The Foyle keeper made an excellent save with her left glove and the ball was out of play.
A run down the left hand side by a Foyle player was read by Sarah Murray when she made a very quick sprint into defence to meet the player. She made the tackle and got the ball away from the goal out the side line.
With a 0-0 score at half time it was either teams game but Enniskillen were not ready to give up yet. Jade McMullan won a free just outside the Foyle circle which she took on herself. Dribbling the 5 yards round a Foyle player she hit a clean pass to Catherine Graham in the circle who passed it on to Lucy Thompson. Thompson slotted the ball to the right of the keeper hitting the backboard and scoring Enniskillen their goal.
Foyle came back fighting straight away and their left wing took a strike at Enniskillen’s goal which rebounded off goal keeper Katie Elliott’s foot and was picked up by Foyle and aimed at the left post where it was stopped dead by Emily Stewart on the line. Unfortunately the Foyle player quickly nabbed the ball and flicked it over Stewart’s stick to level the score line.
Foyle were awarded a penalty corner and Enniskillen were not willing to let anymore goals in. A tackle by Katie Deane allowed her to hit the ball out the side.
All Enniskillen players played brilliantly and should be proud of their hard fought and well deserved draw. Final score 1-1.
The 2nd XI and U13 also played Foyle on Saturday both coming away with Draw.
2nd XI 1-1 and U13s 2-2.
