    South Africa Update 2

One week in and half way through their tour, the boys were able to celebrate two excellent game results against Glenwood House School, George on Thursday. The U16 team dominated from the outset and proved too strong and fast for the host side. The game was Won in the first half and despite an impressive resurgence by Glenwood in the second, the boys closed the game down nicely with some outstanding defensive work and tackling. Final score 0-43 with Daniel Johnston named Man of the Match.

The U19s put on a similarly impressive display. Dominating physically they took the game to Glenwood and soon start to accrue points on the board. Glenwood fought back well and did manage to get over the line but the ERGS boys, boosted with the arrival of some of their U16 colleagues, were just too good at exploiting holes in their defence, keeping the ball alive and finding the space to put points on the board. Final Score 7-29. Man of the match going to Neil Rutledge.

Following a successful afternoon on the pitch we then travelled to the Garden Route Game Lodge for a our game drives. The landscape in this region is phenomenal and the boys were able to get incredibly close to the animals in the capable hands of the rangers, including the ‘Big 5’. They also experienced a bit of 5* luxury during their overnight stay at the lodge.

On Saturday we then travelled to the Wilderness region with a stop at the Cango wildlife reserve, where a guided tour explained the extent of conservation work they are involved in and the boys even got a chance to get quite up close and personal with a few of the reserve’s residents.

Sunday was a little more relaxed with the squad being put through some early morning beach training followed by a Lagoon Cruise on the Knysnar river Estuary.. its a tough life !!

We now head back to Cape Town for week two. With 2 more games on the horizon and a trek to the summit of Table Mountain planned for Tuesday, it promises to be another unforgettable week.

🥉 Congratulations to former ERGS pupil Ellie McCartney on winning bronze for Team Northern Ireland in the Women’s 200m Breaststroke at the Commonwealth Games.

This is a fantastic achievement and another proud moment in Ellie’s swimming career. Having already won two Commonwealth Youth Games titles and a European U23 championship, it is wonderful to see her add a Commonwealth Games medal to her growing list of achievements.

Ellie’s hard work, determination and commitment have taken her to the very highest level of the sport, and she continues to be a great role model for our young people.

We are incredibly proud of all she has achieved and wish her every success in the future.

Congratulations to our ERGS swimmers on their fantastic performances at the Irish National Championships! 🏊‍♂️👏

Three ERGS pupils recently represented their clubs with distinction at the Irish National Age Group Championships in Limerick and the Irish National Youth & Senior Championships in Dublin.

🥇 Jakub Mikiewicz Lumayad enjoyed an outstanding championship, becoming Irish National Champion in the 100m Freestyle and claiming silver in the 200m Freestyle. Competing beyond his age group, Jakub also finished second overall among 12-year-olds in the 50m Freestyle Open Age Group event. He rounded off a superb week with 5th place in the 200m Breaststroke and 6th place in the 100m Breaststroke.

💪 Ryan Mongan produced an excellent performance in the 50m Breaststroke, setting a new personal best after months of dedicated training. Ryan also swam a strong 200m Freestyle leg as part of the Lakelanders 800m Freestyle Relay Team.

👏 Russell Mikiewicz Lumayad competed in the 200m Freestyle as part of his relay team, delivering a solid swim that helped his team achieve a new personal best.

These fantastic achievements are a testament to the hard work, commitment and determination shown by all three swimmers. We are incredibly proud of Jakub, Ryan and Russell and congratulate them on representing their clubs and ERGS with such distinction.

Well done to all three! 💙💛
