Congratulations to our A Level German students who emerged victorious at the Northern Ireland A Level German Debating competition held at Queen’s University on Friday 14th February, run by NICILT.
Our team was captained by Year 14 Ronan Lunny, who studies German at ERGS through the FLC, and his fellow team members were Year 13 Holly Cobain and Samantha Lee.
Our team proposed the motion “Jugendliche sollten ab 16 Jahren wählen dürfen” – Young people should be allowed to vote from age 16. All three debaters presented their arguments confidently and convincingly, with superb accuracy in their delivery – alles auf Deutsch!
The team won their debate and fought off stiff competition from 5 other schools to win the overall title of “Best Debating Team”. They return to school with rather impressive silverware, as well as goodie bags sponsored by the Goethe Institute. Special mention must also go to Ronan, who was awarded the impressive accolade of Best Speaker in their debate.
