The Angus Youth Challenge is a skills-based competition run by ABP in association with the Northern Irish Angus Producer Group. It is open to Year 11 pupils who have a strong interest in agriculture and the agri-food industry.
To enter, pupils were asked to submit a short video outlining their understanding of ABP, the Aberdeen Angus breed, and their personal interest in agriculture and food production. ERGS entered three team videos and all three were successfully selected to attend the semi-final at the Eikon Centre on Thursday 23rd October.
This year’s competition was the largest yet, with an amazing 42 teams competing for just four sets of calves.
The three ERGS teams were:
Group 1: Jake Stubbs and Simon Surphlis

We wish all three teams the very best of luck and now wait patiently to find out in the coming weeks if any have secured a place in the final. The four finalist teams will take part in a 12-month skills development programme with ABP, gaining hands-on experience in the beef industry.
An additional £1,000 cash prize will be awarded to one overall winning team at the end of the programme – an achievement ERGS proudly celebrated in 2025.
A massive congratulations to our 2024/25 team on their outstanding success.
We wish all the teams the best and now wait patiently to find out in a few weeks if any of them have got through to the final. The four finalist teams will receive skills development in the beef industry over the next 12-months with ABP. An additional £1000 cash prize will be awarded to one overall winning team at the end of the programme, which the school has been lucky to win in 2025.
