On Wednesday 31st May, four of our talented string players were invited by the Music Service, in conjunction with Music in Fermanagh to participate in a workshop with the prestigious RTE ‘Con Tempo’ String Quartet. Since its formation in Bucharest in 1995, it has performed at world-wide in venues such as St Martin-in-the-Fields, Berliner Philharmonie, Palazzo del Quirinale Rome, Carnegie Hall and the Opera House Tel-Aviv. The ensemble has won numerous international prizes, taking first prize at competitions in Munich, Rome and London.
Katie and Ellen Bloomfield (Violins), Rebecca Egerton (Viola) and Caroline Knowles (Cello) formed a quartet to perform at the workshop and the pupils also had the opportunity to play along with a string group including young musicians from Mount Lourdes and St Michael’s Grammar Schools. The girls had the opportunity to seek advice and develop their skills as well as to hear some really exciting music performed by this professional quartet, including quartet music of Bela Bartok. It was a most enjoyable and positive experience for all involved and a welcome break from exam revision!
