We were honoured to host a Commemorative Service for 75th Anniversary of VJ Day on our Lough Shore site on Saturday 15th August 2020. This was an important opportunity to salute those men and women from our local community including members of the Portora School Community, who gave distinguished service during World War II. We were particularly pleased to welcome Bill Eames who planted a tree on behalf of the OPU in memory of those Portorans who paid the ultimate price in the conflict.
The current generation, who owe so much to the bravery of our former pupils, was represented by Robbie Mills and Ellen Bloomfield (Head Boy and Head Girl) who received wreaths to be laid at the war memorial in our school. We were also delighted that Bill Eames was able to present this year’s OPU bursary winner Szymon Gorczynski with his award on the same day.
Many thanks also to Roy Crawford for providing photographs below.
