Soroptimist International celebrates local winner, Jasmine Dooris, at 37th Annual Public Speaking Competition
On Saturday 9 February at the Hillsborough Village Centre, Soroptimist International Northern Ireland welcomed 13 participants to take part in the 37th Annual Public Speaking Competition.
This event not only showcased the talents of the 13 competitors from across Northern Ireland but also championed the skills acquired through public speaking as well as the opportunities for girls to have their voices and opinions heard, encouraging them to play active roles in public life with confidence.
Soroptimist International Club Enniskillen President, Michelle Kennedy said, ‘These girls have gone through tough competitions to get to this stage and we are very proud of Jasmine Dooris from Enniskillen Royal School’s achievements in getting to the Northern Ireland Final.’
‘We would also like to thank competition sponsors, Sleepy Hollow Group, for all their support. Events such as this give girls a platform to speak out about issues that mean something to them and inspire an audience. Jasmine Dooris spoke on the topic of ‘What is normal is decided by the society in which we live’ with confidence and won the adjudicators’ high points on the day by being placed second in the competition. She paid tribute to her school Principal Miss Armstrong and her English teacher, Miss Heap who encouraged her to take part in the competition.
If anyone would like to find out more about this competition or how to get involved in their local area then please contact Soroptimist International club Enniskillen Secretary Hazel Allen.
