The overall squad of 15 players and also the injured Julia Mulligan set off early to put their year of excellent Schools Rugby preparations to the test.
Due to a late change of format, the girls would face a tough schedule of 6 x 10 mins, 7 a side, full pitch rugby with the view to coming in the top 4 of a table of 7 schools. There would then be a 14 minute semifinal where 1st would play 4th place and 2nd would play 3rd place. This was to be a tough day in really tough conditions on a sticky pitch but the girls had prepared well.
They played their 6 round robin games with the following results:
ERGS 17 – 5 Coleraine GS
ERGS 17 – 5 Royal School Armagh
ERGS 5 – 0 Mt Lourdes
ERGS 10 – 0 Down High School
ERGS 19 – 0 Banbridge Academy
ERGS 19 – 0 Assumption GS
6 wins from 6 games !!
They then faced a semifinal against the squad they found the trickiest challenge in the League phase, their neighbours Mt Lourdes. This was a 7 mins per half game that the ERGS girls demonstrated their pace, power and skill and they ran out convincing winners 39 – 0, but huge credit goes to neighbours Mt Lourdes who were without 3 or 4 injured players.
A really tough day where the ERGS girls really had to play themselves into form on a really sticky pitch. However with 22 tries scored (8 converted) and only 2 conceded, they can prepare for the Final against Down High School on March 5th with great self belief and confidence.
