ERBC’s senior crews travelled to National Rowing Centre, Cork to compete at Cork Regatta last weekend and they won both the Mens and Womens Junior Eights categories which was a great achievement for them. The boys – Evan Donaghy, Ryan Topping, Luke Bailey, Austin Cassidy, Andrew Cuthbertson, Christian Timoney, Lorcan Sreenivasan, William Bogle and Abbey Wilson overcame the challenge from Methodist College, Neptune RC and Castleconnell BC in their category winning in a time of 5.47.3. The girls – Kate Huddlestone, Isabella Wright, Naomi Robinson, Rhea Cartin McCloskey, Zara Welsh, Emily Black, Ruby Hamill, Eva Johnston and cox Jessica Thompson completed their heat in a fast time of 6.55.4 and were the only Junior crew to make the grand league Divison 1 A final with Senior crews from University of Limerick, UCD. They were faster than University College, Cork and Trinity Ladies along with the junior crews from St Michaels, Castleconnell BC and Shandon. The girls Coxless Four – Isabella Wright, Emily Black, Naomi Robinson and Zara Welsh were 2nd to the crew from St Michael’s RC in a time of 7.06.0 in the A final.
On Saturday the Men’s coxed Four – Evan Donaghy, Luke Bailey, Austin Cassidy, Lorcan Sreenivasan and Cox Abbey Wilson were 2nd in the A final behind the crew from Neptune RC.
Next weekend ERBC’s junior crews will take part in the 1k Classic, the final event of their season over 2 days this weekend at Lough Rynn and then the seniors will compete at the Irish Rowing Championships on the weekend of 11th – 13th July.
