Year 9 and 10 rowers from Enniskillen Royal Grammar School hosted rowers from Coleraine Grammar and Methodist College Belfast on Thursday at the Boathouse in a very competitive and hard-fought friendly event. In total approximately 120 rowers competed in races from the Round O to the boathouse. This was the first race ever for some of our Year 9 rowers and they all rowed their hearts out to earn their medals. The crews raced in Octuples and quads in a round robin style event until 3 or 4 boats raced off against each other in a Final. ERBC won the majority of the races and the rowers were all presented with medals at the end of the event by Mr Holland and the ERBC coaches who were present. Although this was billed as a fun, friendly event it was great to see the competitive spirit and the determination to win come to the fore in the rowers; it is safe to say that ERBC is in safe hands.
Many thanks to Mr Holland for organising the event, and to the coaching team and the coaches and teachers from both Methody and Coleraine Grammar School who travelled to Enniskillen for the event. We hope to travel to Methody for a return fixture before the end of the school year if it can be scheduled into the calendar.
