A 28 man U13 squad took to the pitch this weekend to face Banbridge Academy at home. The starting 15 went out strong with determined running and good movement of the ball into space allowing Mannix, Curry, Gould and McKenzie all to be rewarded with tries and a conversion by Mannix leaving the first half a convincing 22-0. With a complete changeover of team at half time and an opportunity for Banbridge to regroup, the second half became a more challenging contest. The ERGS rucking lacked the intensity of the first half, with runners often becoming isolated, resulting in ‘messy’ ball and a number of unnecessary turnovers. This in turn allowed the Banbridge eight and centres to start running around the outside of a straggled defence, scoring 3 try’s and gaining two conversions. However, despite this the ERGS boys still remained the dominant side, taking their opportunities when they appeared and scoring an additional three impressive tries from Whitaker, Hinchliffe and Beddard, all converted by Hinchliffe to leave the final score 43-19
