Five brave Year 9 German pupils took part in our school heat today for the Northern Ireland German Spelling Bee Competition. They were Annie Fowler, Barry Hutchinson, Bruce Lennox, Eloise McDonagh and Conor Taylor.
Pupils had to learn the meaning of 50 German words and be able to spell them in German. They had one minute to show off their very impressive spelling skills to Mrs Donald (organiser) and their German teachers, Mrs Crawford and Mrs McCready-Bamber (judges).
It was a very closely fought competition, with Eloise McDonagh finishing in 2nd place and Barry Hutchinson taking 1st place. Barry now goes forward to the national competition which will be held virtually on 19th March.
We are extremely proud of the effort all five pupils put in to preparing for this extra-curricular competition and wish Barry “viel Glück” in the national competition.
