ERBC had a hugely successful Fours Head of the River on Saturday with 55 Women’s crews competing in Race 1 in the morning and 76 Men’s crews racing Race 2 in the afternoon.
ERBC’s girls had great success with Junior 16 4X+ Zara Welsh, Naomi Robinson, Hannah Armstrong, Rhea Cartin McCloskey and Jessica Thompson (cox) over Commercial RC in a great time of 23.22.9 taking the win by 51.4 secs.
Junior 16 4+ Sienna Howe, Mya Morris, Meabh Murphy, Zara Lindsay and Milena Remedios (cox) won over the girls from Galway RC and St Michael’s RC by 4.8 secs completing the race in 24.26.2
There was also a win for the Junior 15 coxed quad girls – Emily Black, Isabella Wright, Abbie McCarthy Magwood, Tori Davis and Rachel Cathcart (cox) in time of 23.04.1
The Junior 14 coxed quad Clodagh Donaghy, Eva Fowler, Aimee Turner, Penny Huddlestone and Amy Lipscomb (cox) finishing in a time of 24.56.5 won over the crew from Coleraine Grammar School 20.6 secs.
Junior coxless Four, Kate Huddlestone, Ruby Hamill, Eva Johnston and Annabelle Kingston raced well but were unfortunately beaten by Castleconnell BC by only 0.8 secs in a time of 23.29
All eight ERBC crews in Race 1 performed really well and should be very proud of their efforts.
Race 2 saw 9 crews take to the water with very competitive racing in all categories the Junior 16 Coxed Four Christian Timoney, Austin Cassidy, Luke Bailey, Ryan Topping and Abbey Wilson (cox) won their category in a time of 20.36.8
Junior 15 coxed quad crew of Cillian Donaghy, Olie Powell, Joshua Ihnat, Matthew Montgomery and Rachel Cathcart (cox) beat the crew from Blackrock RC by 8.9 secs in a time of 21.43.7 Cillian.
There were close races and second place finishes for Junior 18B 4x- Evan Donaghy, Harry Coalter, Lorcan Sreenivasan, Andrew Cuthbertson and Jessica Thompson (cox), the Junior 16 4x+ Jake Sembhi, Charlie Lynn, Harley Sheppard, Ben Cameron and Milena Remedios (cox) and Junior 14 4X+ Evan Clarke, Oliver Jennings, James McAleer, Joel Crean and Tori Davis (cox). It was all great racing experience for the crews as the Club look forward to the next event, Carrick Head of the River at Lough Rynn on Saturday, 7thDecember.
The Amanda McManus Memorial Trophy for the fastest Women’s crew was won by UCD and it was presented to the winning crew by Amanda’s daughters Katie and Charlotte, her husband Frank and her parents Linda and Kenneth Hall.
The John Mills Memorial Trophy for the fastest Men’s Crew was won by Queens University, Belfast. The trophy was presented by Gretta Mills.
The Oliver Scallon Memorial Cup for the fastest Junior Four was won by Methodist College, Belfast
The Cup for the fastest Women’s Junior Four was also won by Methody RC.
UCD won the Waterways Ireland Trophy for the most successful senior club on the day with ERBC winning the equivalent trophy for Juniors. Both these trophies were presented by Garret McGrath, Waterways Ireland’s Northern Regional Manager. ERBC captains Eva Johnston and Luke Bailey accepted the trophy on behalf of the Club.
