‘The ERGS team of four Year 12 pupils, Alfie Thompson, Conor Phair, Jenson Lindsay and Mackenzie Wilson, who are Finalists in the ABP Angus Youth Challenge 24/25, have organised an upcoming event called ‘ Healthy Soil, Healthy Future’.
The evening that will see three invited speakers: TicToc farming influencer, Farm Theory’s Andrew Wright, talking on how he interprets his soil analysis results and what practical things he does on his large dairy farm with the results in order to improve his soil health and grass nutrition.
Andrew Thompson Senior Technologist from CAFRE’ s Soil Team will be sharing his knowledge on what makes healthy soil, benefits of improving your soil and how to go about doing it.
James Morrison, 2024 past pupil, will be talking about his recent experience representing Ireland and UK Youth Team at the World Angus Forum in Australia.
The ERGS team will be launching their leaflet “Understanding Your Soil Analysis” written by them. It is to be used as a guide for farmers when they receive their soil analysis results and will help explain the results, give suggestions of what practical ways the farmer can treat his fields and improve his soil quality.
We are delighted that we can use this night as a fundraiser for our two chosen charities Air Ambulance and Rural Support. We have received very generous sponsorship and prizes from local agricultural related businesses which has allowed us to hold an auction and draw on the night. James Morrison will be our auctioneer for the night! This should be a fun and entertaining part of the night.
We will finish the event off with our BBQ supper. The burgers have been kindly sponsored to us by ABP Linden Meats.
We would love for our school friends and colleagues to come and support us and our charities on Tuesday 9th September at 7.30pm at Cleenish Millennium Community Hall, Arney.’
