On Saturday 26th September, the ERGS Show jumping Team travelled to the Meadows Equestrian Centre to compete in the 1st week of the Tri-League for the 2020 season. A stranger scene amongst our new Covid reality. I have to say, I couldn’t be prouder of the Team and their horses/ponies. So many new animals for our riders to take over the courses.
Due to the new horses, riders wanted to see how their charges would fare over various heights. So, we entered Emily Black ( Year 8) and Rianna Mulligan (Year 9) into the 75cm Individual class. They were into Arena 2 bright and early for their event. Both girls had great rides with only 4 faultsapiece. Ones to watch in future weeks. Rianna also entered the 85cm Individuals – it proved to be a tough course for the rookie horse – however it won’t be long before they are flying over the jumps.
The Novice team were next to go in Arena 1. Lucie-Anne was up first. She went into the arena with confidence and had a great ride – a double clear to start the team off. Next in was Tiana-Grace on her new horse, she was very unfortunate to have a few poles down but, this will give her time to come back stronger in a fortnight’s time. Finally, Hannah made a return to the Arena on her new horse. She had a great round with a super time and a double clear. Onwards and upwards for a fortnights time.
Next in was the Open team – all two of them! Sophia was first in with a steady double clear on a horse that wasn’t her usual ride. Then after a few more riders, Sophia reappeared on her own horse to produce yet another double clear in a slightly faster time. Finally, in came Patrick for their third double clear – also in a good time. Their combined time was low enough to win them 4th spot in the top 6. A fantastic start to this Year’s Tri-League.
Sophia decided this year also to enter the individual Premier league. She rode really well in a super time with only one fault. A good decision to move up to this height.
Well done to all the riders, but a special mention to our newest team member – Emily Black on her first schools’ Competition.
Thanks are due as usual to the unfailing support of the parents – without you, we couldn’t enter the pupils in any of these competitions.
