Tournament results. ERGS played a quad tournament at the amazing Dollar academy. In a stunning location the boys had 3 x20 Min games. First up was a slick and powerful Stewart’s Melville College. Arguably the best in Scotland at this age. This was a super game with perfectly matched sides. ERGS did dominate possession and territory but despite some well timed plays the score remained 0-0. Next up was Dollar academy. A larger more physical side and unbeaten from last season Dollar proved formidable opponents. ERGS however, met the physical challenge and scored first through Sam Carrothers out wide. ERGS then defended tooth and nail for 5 mins. Eventually pushing dollar back to half way. Here they gave away a penalty, went to sleep and allowed Dollar to cross and convert. Final score 7-5. The final game was against the immense Sedbergh. What a team. Strong big and fast they dispatched Stewart’s Melville with some ease. ERGS were down to their last men through yet more injuries however, they fronted up and played most of the game in Sedbergh’s half. Looking the better team they again just failed to turn the pressure into points. The last play of the game allowed the seriously impressive Sedbergh back line to break free and after being hauled down by an amazing chase tackle by Myles Graham their outhalf switched play with a delightful kick to the corner which their wing collected and fed the oncoming runner to score in the corner. You wouldn’t see better anywhere. It was an incredible bit of rugby. Final score 5-0.
The level of skill from the 4 teams was something to behold and The ERGS boys were right up there and competitive in all aspects of the game. The low scoring demonstrating just how tight the games were. The large crowd was taken with the ERGS style of play and once again they won many friends and certainly the respect of all watching. With invites coming in to play the best schools based on these performances the boys should be very proud and once again they represented their school superbly.
Try: Sam Carrothers
