Despite the imminent threat of Storm Dennis, the 22 man 3rdXV travelled to Wallace this morning to compete in their Shield Quarter Final. A period of hibernation in a very comfy bus up the road, resulted in a slow start that saw them go down by 19 points in the first 14 minutes. However after a few motivational words from coach John Clarke and a bit of soul searching, the boys began to stage one of the comebacks of the season. Winger McKee openning the ERGS scoring following an offload from full back Ingram to put the first 5 points on the board before half time, ending at 24-5.
As the second half started, winger Bothwell opened the scoring with a conversion from Ingram to bring the score to 24-12. Center Caldbeck then danced his way through the defensive line to score a third, moving the score to 24-17. With 5 minutes to go, a quick spread wide from out half Graham allowed Bothwell to finish again and Ingram to convert bringing the score to nail bitting 24-24😬.
Both sides now threw everything they had at the final minutes, each side trying to capitalise on the others mistakes. Unfortunately with less than 2 minutes to play, it was Wallace who found their way over the line and there just was no time left for the ERGS men to come back.
Final score 29-24, and a great game to finish off the season with prop Graeme McClure named MOTM.
