This week, we welcomed Mr David Donaldson to Year 13 Assembly where Ben Foster and Robbie McIlwrath from School Council presented a cheque to him for £352.65 which was raised as a result of pupils paying to wear their Christmas jumpers at the end of Term 1.
School Council nominated Ride to Everest as one of the initiatives they wanted to support this year as the money was going to two great charities – Action Cancer and End Polio Now.
David gave a very engaging presentation to Year 13 on his motorcycle ride from Kathmandu to Mount Everest’s North Face Base Camp at 5200 metres above sea level. David explained how this extreme 2340 Km journey took him across the desolate and lonely high altitude plains of the Tibetan Plateau. In the saddle for 15 days and at times riding at over 17,000 feet in the thin Himalayan air both on and off road, it was definitely the most challenging fundraiser he has attempted to date!
