Year 9 pupils were challenged to create a design for a competitive fighting robot that could potentially participate in the BBC 2 programme ‘Robot Wars’. Pupils’ designs would represent their respective house (Belmore, Benauglin, Cuilcagh and Trien) and considerations such as speed (mph), weight (kg) and armour were to be contemplated in order to design an effective machine with the ability to launch offensive attacks on competitors but also to withstand counter attacks through defensive means. The pupils engaged enthusiastically with the task and created a wide range of innovative and imaginative responses, obtaining credits and house points as a result of their participation.
