James McAleer (Year 11) and Luke Bailey (Year 13) had the opportunity of a lifetime last Sunday morning after the Erne Fours Head, when they got to row with seven Olympians. This incredible experience was made possible by Joe McAleer and Tim Richmond, who won the auctioned seats in the boat but selflessly passed them on to the younger rowers.
The auction was part of a fundraising initiative for A Night at the Oskars, organised by Head Coach, Derek Holland. The two lucky students shared the boat with an impressive lineup of Olympians, including:
- Derek Holland – Competed in Atlanta 1996, finishing 4th in the lightweight men’s four.
- Nathan Timoney – Competed in Paris 2024, finishing 6th in the men’s pair.
- Ross Corrigan – Competed in Paris 2024, finishing 6th in the men’s pair.
- Neville Maxwell – Finished 4th in Atlanta 1996 (lightweight men’s four) and 11th in Sydney 2000.
- Eugene Coakley – Finished 6th in Athens 2004 (lightweight men’s four).
- Sam Lynch – Finished 4th in Atlanta 1996 and 8th in Athens 2004 (lightweight men’s single sculls).
- Liam Williams – Represented Ireland in Moscow 1980 and Seoul 1988.
This unique event not only celebrated the sport but also created unforgettable memories for James and Luke, who were honoured to row alongside some of the greatest names in rowing history.
Please join us this Saturday night for A Night at the Oskars, supporting the Rowing and Rugby Clubs. This exciting event is aimed at raising essential funds to enhance facilities for both clubs and to invest in the future of all ERGS students.
