Tuesday 11th March. On a fine Spring day, the ERGS Showjumping teams took to the Walled Garden Arena at Necarne. A beautiful venue in sunny Fermanagh!
We entered 2 Intermediate teams, 2 Intermediate individuals and 1 Open team.
It was a day of 1sts and lasts. In the Blue team, for Isabelle Wallace, it was Bess’ last competition for the school and for the Wallace household. She had a solid round, just clipping 2 poles. For Tori Veitch, it was a first schools competition for Silvers Hero. Another good round with only a couple of poles clipped. Sophie McCann and Molly started really well but then had an issue with the double fence, deciding not to jump it! Finally, Ruby and Izzy rode and achieved a lovely double clear.
For our Red team, Lily rode first on Izzy (getting her warmed up for Ruby!) and had a great round with only two poles down. Next in was Imogen on Chico. A super quick round with only one pole down in the first phase. 3rd in were Molly and George. This was another solid round. With just a pole down in the 2nd phase. Finally it was the turn of Sophie Johnston on Thunder. This pair had a super double clear.
Despite the good rides, it was not quite enough to get into the top 6 on this occasion.
The individuals had to withdraw due to issues with hooves and a music exam!
Our Open team began well with Maeve jumping Clashadoo Jay ( first time for the school) to a double clear, an excellent start. Tori and Stewart were next, despite a good ride, a couple of poles were just knocked down. Molly and Boomerang (another first for the school) jumped well with only a few faults in each phase. Finally Tess and Rusty rode, again a good start, but Rusty wasn’t feeling great, so they retired instead of overexerting him.
A super day out with all the pupils getting the chance to try out their horses in a different / not too familiar arena.
Thanks to everyone for their support, parental and peer! Until the next one!!
