The teams first hard ball cricket match for the school ended in defeat against a very strong Strabane team.
ERGS won the toss and put Strabane into bat. The 2 openers between them put on a swift 75 off the first 7 overs and a predicted score of 160+ looking a distinct possibility. Undeterred the ERGS bowling line up kept persevering with line & length improving as the innings went on. H Beddard took 2 for 27 with one dismissal courtesy of a fine catch in the covers by A McElwaine. Cerys Robinson & D McElwaine also contributed with a wicket each. Strabane were eventually restricted to 131 for 4 off the 16 allocated overs.
ERGS required run rate was a challenging 8 an over. Some tight Strabane bowling restricted ERGS batting options not helped by some kamikaze running between the wickets. M Wilson looked settled but was one of three batters to be run out. J McCusker top scored with 11.
ERGS were eventually all out for 24 in the 14th over and credit for some dogged resistance at the crease particularly from D McElwaine.
Final result ERGS lost by 107 runs
Plenty of potential with ERGS now proceeding to the Plate competition. Training continues every Tuesday on CC 330 – 500 for boys & girls.
