With the U15’s having lost a couple of weeks ago to a strong Armagh side in the Schools Cup, the boys travelled to Banbridge Academy to play in the Plate Competition. Having won the toss and electing to field first, ERGS had Banbridge on the ropes early doors with a blistering spell of pace bowling from Charlie Gregg taking 3 wickets for only 1 run in his first 2 overs. Despite a strong start, Banbridge’s middle order played well with some strong ground strokes. A total of 64 for 6 was posted after a timed innings allowed for 13 overs.
ERGS knew 5 runs an over would see them through but disaster struck in the first over with both Dale Fisher & Charlie Gregg clean bowled with a jaffa of a yorker to remove Gregg for a duck.
The remaining overs saw a combo of slow scoring and wickets tumbling leaving the lower order to make up the pace. With solid knocks from J Rutledge, H Hasselman, J McCusker & S Little, it was too little too late and a score of 55-7 off 13 overs meant ERGS fell short by 9 runs.
Next up the U13’s travel to Strabane Academy on Thursday 22nd for their second pool game in the Schools Cup, having been beaten by Foyle in game 1.
