The Senior Girls Rugby squad set off for Portadown Rugby Club on Tuesday with a slightly reduced squad size to start their campaign to win back the Senior Girls Schools Cup.
Whilst they were a little short of their normal numbers, they were still able to field 20 players making two squads of 10 to take part. The numbers may have been down from 3 weeks ago but the quality was certainly improving through each training session to give ERGS one of their strongest ever Senior Girls group.
The opposition today was made up of Belfast High School, Down High School and Strangford Integrated College. On a beautiful day for running rugby, both ERGS teams took to the pitches and wasted no time getting past their first opponents. The Red Squad beat Belfast HS 9-0 and the Blue Squad beat Down HS 5-2.
Next up for the Blue team was Strangford Integrated but the Ards peninsula team were no match for the girls. Blue team winning 7-0. The Reds then took on Down HS and turned out a great performance winning 8-0.
The last games saw the best rugby from both teams when they continued to flash the ball wide and the wingers had a field day. The Reds won against Strangford 7-1 and the Blues defeated Belfast HS 8-0.
A very valuable day for both teams and a great opportunity to play fast running rugby.
