    Ulster Schools Swimming Gala

    By Enniskillen Royal | Latest News | Comments are Closed | 6 February, 2023 | 0

The Swim Ulster Schools Cup & Championships 2023 took place on Saturday 4th February at Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex Bangor. Over 700 swimmers from 120 schools across the province of Ulster took part in the one day event. Five Fermanagh schools were part of the action with 23 local swimmers taking part, eight of whom were swimmers from Enniskillen Royal Grammar School.

Ellie Dunlop (14) was delighted to bring home silver for ERGS along with a new PB in the 100m Breaststroke. Ellie has now qualified for the Ulster Interprovincial Team 2023 who will swim at the Irish Schools Interpro Championships at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin in March.
Russell Mikiewicz Lumayad (13) knocked almost 2 seconds off his PB in the 100m Backstroke and he followed that with another PB in the 100m Freestyle event.
Jessica Miller (12) shaved almost 15 seconds off her 100m Breaststroke PB, then picked up another 2 second PB in the 100m Freestyle race.
James Mongan (16) touched the wall as the third fastest 16 year old in the 100m Backstroke, also picking up a new PB in the event. He went on to maintain his time in the 100m Breaststroke.
Younger brother Ryan Mongan (13) was delighted to see he had taken 3 seconds off his 100m Breaststroke time. He then went on to swim to his PB in the 100m Freestyle race.
Maeve Rolston McAuliffe (12) knocked almost 12 seconds off her time in the 100m Freestyle and set herself a new target to beat in the 200m Individual Medley after an impressive first swim in the event.
Erin Salcedo (12) touched the wall with a 2 second PB in the 100m Breaststroke and maintained her PB in the 100m Freestyle race.
Sarah Speer (14) was very happy with her performance, securing a 2 second PB in both 100m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle.
Sarah, Ellie, Erin and Jessica did the school proud in the girls’ Medley Relay race, placing 3rd in their heat; whilst Sarah, Jessica, Erin and Maeve proved a strong team in the girls’ Freestyle relay race.

We congratulate all the swimmers and thank Miss Ellis and the swimmers’ families for making the journey to Bangor on Saturday. Special congratulations and good luck to Ellie Dunlop as she represents ERGS on the Ulster Interprovincial Team 2023 who will swim at the Irish Schools Interpro Championships at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin in March.
